United States Stenograph Co., St. Louis, Missouri, circa 1886 – no serial number

Photograph of the cased Stenograph 1 ready for use.

This cased Bartholomew Stenograph has a telescoping middle key that slides forwards for operating and then it pushes back into the case for the lid to close when done. The first detail image below shows the middle key pushed back for the lid to close.

The Stenograph frame is made of brass and is screwed to the inside of the case and is not intended to be removed when in use.

The last patent date shown is Nov. 16, 1886.

This is the only known example of its kind and may be a prototype.
