Standard Folding 1 Typewriter

Standard Typewriter Co., New York, N.Y., 1908 – serial no.4331

Standard Folding 1 typewriter

The Standard Folding typewriter was the predecessor of the very popular folding Corona 3 of 1917. The Standard Folding with its aluminum frame and carriage weighs only 5 1/2 lbs.

The carriage is hinged and folds forwards, coming to rest on top of the keyboard, allowing the typewriter to fit in the smallest case possible. The folded state is shown in the detail below. Model 1 is similar to model 2 but has one shift key on either side of the keyboard, whereas model 2 has both shift keys on the left hand side of the keyboard.
