Commercial Visible 6 Typewriter (1899)

Visible Typewriter Company, New York, 1898 – serial no.24,175

Offering for sale this gorgeous Commercial Visible No. 6 typewriter, circa 1899.

This example is in truly exceptional condition. The original decals on the paper table and the central eagle emblem remain pristine. Both the nickel plating and black enamel finish are in excellent shape.

The rear rubber feet still have their original factory-installed metal collars, designed to secure the typewriter to a desk. The front two rubber feet are new replacements.

The machine has been fully cleaned by me and is ready for display in any collection.

Here is the description of the Commercial Visible 6 with the example seen in my collection.

The impressive Commercial Visible 6 has a distinct low profile with a narrow “waist,” and features an eye-catching gold decal, with an eagle, centered in the typewriter’s name.

This typewriter uses a type wheel that can be exchanged to change the font. When typing, a spring-loaded hammer behind the carriage swings forward to strike the paper and ribbon against the type wheel.

The flat metal holder on top of the left-hand ribbon spool holds a fountain pen, allowing the typist to draw horizontal or vertical lines by moving the carriage sideways or the paper up and down. A pen is shown in this clip in the second image below.

The last image is a fantastic illustration from the cover of the manual.
