The Blickensderfer has no type bars and instead uses a cylindrical type element (shown below). The type element is interchangeable, allowing for numerous font styles. A small felt roller attached to a spring-loaded arm, positioned under the type element, does the inking.
Now 120 plus years later Blickensderfer typewriters typically do not type well on paper but as with good examples such as this one, operates mechanically perfectly for demonstration purposes. This is because the feed roller develops a flat side and the platen rubber is too hard to grab the paper. So this is a beautiful display model which will demonstrate its remarkable action.
You are welcome to pick up typewriters at my house. I also ship typewriters and would be pleased to give you a quote.
