Sun Type-Writer Co. New York, N.Y.
1885 - serial no.1140

This example of the Sun is an early first version, with no carriage shift lever and two ink rollers. The characters that print to the paper are metal, on later versions this part is hardened rubber.

The design of the Sun, with the sliding selector, predates the Odell patent of 1889. The platen is covered with elegantly stitched leather. The Sun types only in capitals.

"It is a Perfect Machine, and worth its weight (7 pounds, packed) in gold, both for ease of manipulation and excellence of work."
