EDELMANN
Wernicke, Edelmann & Co., Germany, 1897, Serial #17790
|
This well made index typewriter was a latecomer, as most
of the typewriters being manufactured at this time were with keyboards.
Nonetheless, the Edelmann met with considerable success, and sold right up to
just before the First World War.
The curved index strip is porcelain and over a hundred
years later, still looks brand new.
By moving the wooden knob, back and forth, one selects
the characters, and then pushes the knob down into the alignment gate,
bringing the type wheel down onto the platen to type.
The type wheel had three rows of characters allowing for
both upper & lower case with numbers & punctuation.
